I need a professional HD Cinematic video camera?

A friend and I want to get into making films by starting out with documentaries. We have some serious screenplay scripts that we eventually want to make on our own as Indy films. To start out we want to do documentaries and shorts. We're looking for a good professional HD cinematic video camera that has widescreen capabilities. We live in the LA area, but far out of downtown. I know there are stores in LA that sell them, but I don't know which stores. Any pointers? We are preferably seeking a used device, as we are on a limited budget - somewhere under $2,000.00. I know they can get as high as $60,000.00- $70,000.00, but we're probably not looking for that high a quality. We're novices. Eventually that's our goal, though.
